GLIDE and UAE University sign MoU to strengthen infectious disease elimination research

The Global Institute for Disease Elimination (GLIDE) and United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise collaboration in research, training, and knowledge exchange focused on infectious disease elimination.

Scope of the agreement
The MoU establishes a joint framework addressing infectious diseases, neglected tropical diseases, and other public health priorities of regional and international significance. The partnership is designed to strengthen the evidence base informing policy and clinical practice, whilst building scientific leadership within the UAE.

Capacity strengthening forms a central component of the collaboration, with plans for joint training programmes, lectures, workshops, internships, and fellowship opportunities. A particular emphasis has been placed on developing local expertise and increasing the participation of Emirati researchers and trainees in global health science.

Research funding and academic collaboration
The two institutions will also pursue joint applications for competitive research funding, including the Falcon Awards for Disease Elimination. UAEU faculty and subject-matter experts may be engaged in grant review processes, reinforcing scientific rigour across both organisations.

“This MoU reflects our shared commitment to strengthening research and building local capacity. By combining academic excellence with applied research and policy engagement, we can accelerate the translation of scientific evidence into real-world impact,” said Dr Farida Al Hosani, CEO of GLIDE.

Knowledge exchange and dissemination
Additional areas of cooperation include mentorship, joint supervision, academic exchanges, data sharing, co-authored policy briefs, and participation in scientific convenings.

GLIDE, an affiliate ofErth Zayed Philanthropies, operates across three strategic pillars – operational research, capacity strengthening, and advocacy – with a stated aim of achieving sustainable elimination of eliminable infectious diseases by 2030.
