Dubai Healthcare City’s Mediclinic City Hospital has achieved international recognition as a Centre of Excellence in Surgical Proctology, becoming the latest healthcare facility to receive this prestigious designation from the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC). The announcement highlights the hospital’s commitment to advanced surgical care for colorectal, anal, and pelvic floor disorders.
Historic surgeon recognition accompanies institutional achievement
The designation carries particular significance due to the parallel recognition of Dr Valentina Giaccaglia, the hospital’s Deputy Medical Director and Consultant Surgeon specialising in coloproctology and pelvic floor diseases. Dr Giaccaglia has been honoured as the first female surgeon globally to receive the SRC’s Surgeon of Excellence in Surgical Proctology designation, marking a historic achievement in the field.
The Centre of Excellence status reflects the integrated approach of a comprehensive multidisciplinary team comprising colorectal surgeons, gastroenterologists, radiologists, pathologists, physiotherapists, anaesthesiologists, specialised nursing staff, and administrative support personnel. This collaborative model ensures patients receive evidence-based, personalised care across the full spectrum of proctological conditions.

Healthcare ecosystem support drives clinical excellence
Allae Almanini, Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Healthcare City Authority, emphasised the strategic partnership’s role in advancing healthcare standards. “We congratulate our strategic partner, Mediclinic City Hospital, for this notable rec-ognition that underscores their persistent dedication to providing healthcare excellence and innovation,” Almanini stated. The Dubai Healthcare City Authority’s support framework enables healthcare partners to develop specialised services that benefit the broader UAE community.
Hospital Director David Eglington described the recognition as “a proud moment for Mediclinic City Hospital and the wider Mediclinic Middle East group,” highlighting how the achievement “reflects the extraordinary commitment of Dr Valentina and our multidisciplinary team to clinical excellence and innovation, and reinforces our position as a regional leader in specialised surgical care.”
Dr Giaccaglia attributed the success to sustained clinical focus, noting that “being recognised as a Centre of Excellence is the result of years of dedication to improving outcomes and quality of life for patients.”
The recognition aligns with Mediclinic Middle East’s broader healthcare mission within the region. As part of the Mediclinic Group, established in South Africa in 1983, the organisation operates seven hospitals and 29 clinics across the UAE, maintaining over 950 inpatient beds. The group’s foundation rests on applying rigorous scientific principles to patient care through state-of-the-art treatments and evidence-based clinical environments.
This designation reinforces Dubai Healthcare City’s position as the region’s largest healthcare ecosystem, continuing to attract international recognition for clinical excellence and specialised medical services.
