Tapping into the medical devices and healthcare services in the MENA Region

of Malaysia to the UAE
Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) continues its strategic mission to expand export opportunities for Malaysian medical devices and healthcare services within the MENA region. This commitment is highlighted by MATRADE’s coordination of 11 Malaysian companies at WHX 2026, marking 21 years of consecutive participation in this premier industry event.
Malaysian Pavilion this year showcases a comprehensive range of cutting-edge technologies and healthcare solutions, including surgical products, gloves, syringes, pharmaceuticals, and health supplements.
Global hub for medical manufacturing
With more than 200 manufacturers operating in the country, Malaysia offers a robust ecosystem for medical innovation and high-volume production. Over the years Malaysia has solidified its reputation as a premier manufacturing hub within ASEAN and a trusted outsourcing destination for over 30 global multinationals.
Malaysia is currently the world’s top exporter of medical gloves and catheters. Over 90% of medical devices manufactured in Malaysia are exported globally, with more than half of these shipments reaching tier-one markets such as the US, Germany, Japan, and China.
Preferred sourcing point for pharmaceuticals
Malaysia has emerged as a preferred global sourcing partner for pharmaceutical products due to several key factors including stringent quality standards ensuring products meet safety and efficacy benchmarks. Malaysian pharmaceutical companies offer everything from generic drugs and IV solutions to advanced biotechnology and prefilled syringes.
Capitalizing on regional visions
GCC countries are currently undergoing massive healthcare transformations. Mr. Badrul Hisham, Trade Commissioner of Malaysia to the UAE, noted that initiatives like UAE Vision 2040 and Saudi Vision 2030 are driving an unprecedented rise in healthcare investments.
“These regional plans aim to expand private healthcare sectors and solidify the GCC’s status as a medical tourism hub,” said Mr. Hisham. “WHX 2026 allows Malaysian companies to tap into this potential by showcasing their capabilities and forging new, long-term partnerships”.
