Stay fit, work better

Technogym has always put corporate wellness in the forefront by promoting the physical and mental well-being of its employees and by helping other brands develop their own corporate wellness programmes.

Wellness is what has driven Technogym ever since its inception. It’s a lifestyle based on regular physical exercise, healthy eating, and a positive mental approach, reflected in every area of life: the home, the gym, the healthcare sector, hotels and, of course, the workplace.

In today’s crowded competitive scenario, the world’s top companies can no longer stand out by product quality and brand awareness alone. The quality of their human resources is now playing a huge role in setting them apart. Innovation is crucial for development, and it necessarily entails improving human capital. A fit and healthy body goes hand in hand with creativity and productivity and also brings beneficial psychological effects.

Today more than ever, the topic of health is taking centre stage all around the world and the spotlight is on NCDs, non-communicable diseases caused by poor lifestyle habits (physical inactivity, poor diet, alcohol, smoking). They represent the number one cause of premature death in the world. If things don’t turn around, 70% of the world population will be obese or overweight by 2030 according to WHO projections. This would make obesity one of the most widespread NCDs.

The OECD revealed that in the 52 most developed countries (across the OECD area, European Union, EU28 and G20), 8.4% of the entire health budget is spent to treat overweight-related medical conditions. On average, overweight alone accounts for 71% of treatment costs for diabetes, 23% of treatment costs for cardiovascular diseases and 9% of treatment costs for cancer. The global economic impact from obesity has been estimated at around €1.77 trillion (2.8% of the world GDP).

Roughly 70% of the adult population in OECD countries is made up of workers (OECD, third quarter 2022), so companies are well positioned to play a critical social role. Looking after employees means looking after a substantial portion of the population. Healthier adults in good shape, who are active and eating healthy food, will inevitably decrease the burden on health systems and public expenditure. Having direct access to a large percentage of the population, employers have an invaluable opportunity to play a strategic role in preventing and controlling non-communicable diseases (and their economic impact).

While this choice clearly falls within the corporate social responsibility strategy, there is also a pragmatic consideration to be made: the well-being of individuals is a considerable asset for the company’s development. In fact, Gallup reports that engaged, satisfied and happy employees can result in up to 23% more profits for companies. According to a study by the Workplace Wellness Alliance of the World Economic Forum in Davos, a corporate wellness programme that targets just physical inactivity, poor diet and smoking would produce net savings of $22 million (for a 10,000 employee company).

Fitt Insider, a website specialised in the world of professional fitness and wellness, points out that according to research conducted in 2022, work-life wellness is a vision destined for success because the employees themselves would express the need to safeguard their own health, even at work. Out of 9,000 workers worldwide, 77% would consider leaving their job if it forced them to sacrifice their well-being, 83% believe it is as important as their salary, and 85% stated that workplace health promotion is among the pre-requisites they look for to commit long term.

Technogym’s Corporate Wellness: Working 4 Wellness

Known as the Wellness Company, Technogym sets the benchmark in development and provision of corporate wellness programmes at a global level. The project was developed from within, as it draws from the company’s own organisation model, built around the promotion of a healthy lifestyle for all employees: regular physical exercise, balanced diet and medical screenings. At the Technogym Village, employees have access to the T-Wellness Center, a two-level gym, and to the T-Restaurant, the corporate restaurant offering balanced meals prepared with high-quality seasonal ingredients, low in salt and saturated fat. This is the vision taking shape, the end goal being the integration of physical activity and proper diet.

Also, Technogym arranges a medical check-up for its employees every year. This enables them to monitor their own state of health over the years and receive medical advice to prevent diseases. Analysis of the health check data has clearly shown that Technogym collaborators taking part in the corporate wellness programme improve their parameters or keep them stable over time.

According to scrupulous research conducted by the Technogym Scientific Department, the state of health of the company’s pool of employees is basically better than Italy’s national average. Positive measurements are seen both in the medical parameters and in the physical activity index: the number of active people at Technogym is very high, in fact, far higher than the national average (80.2% vs. 34%).

Moreover, a comparison with another similar multinational showed that thanks to the corporate wellness project, Technogym employees have better overall well-being, characterised by remarkable cardiometabolic health (57.1% vs. 28.6%). Furthermore, a survey by the University of Urbino Carlo Bo found that 92% of Technogym employees exercised regularly in their free time, against 70% of other companies. Finally, at Technogym only 10% of employees displayed sedentary behaviour (vs. 32% of other companies), 26% were sufficiently active (vs. 16%) and 52% were very active (vs. 41%), for a total of 78% active/very active employees (vs. 57%).

The corporate wellness project for worldwide companies and the brand new Technogym Corporate Club

Technogym leads the way with its employees’ wellness, and that is why another key area of action for the brand is to provide corporate wellness programmes to national and multinational companies all over the world. Technogym builds and manages comprehensive corporate wellness programmes that, in addition to the product, provide support and consultancy backed up by the company’s 40-year expertise.

The latest evolution of the corporate wellness project is Technogym Corporate Club, the Technogym digital platform entirely devoted to corporate wellness. Technogym Corporate Club grows along with Technogym Ecosystem, the brand’s connected ecosystem that lets companies offer their employees an extensive library of content for their workouts, enabling a fluid and widespread wellness experience.

Technogym Corporate Club leverages the functionality and premium content of Technogym App Plus, which guides you through the workout in a hybrid and interconnected solution. Through artificial intelligence, Technogym App generates a fully personalised precision training programme based on the goals and needs of the individual user, plus it also includes nutrition and meditation for a real holistic approach.

The program adapts and evolves and can be expanded by logging in to any Technogym touchpoint, whether inside or outside the company. For example, users who travel a lot for work don’t have to interrupt their training sessions. They can stay connected and keep training at any club offering Technogym services. The system will automatically recognise the user’s profile and language and the machines available at that location, adapting the session accordingly. In short, Technogym Corporate Club is the perfect solution to promote employee wellness in a truly hybrid and seamless way, whether the company has a gym or not.

With the digital Technogym Coach, you can achieve maximum results in the shortest possible time thanks to full personalisation and custom building of the wellness programme. Whether the ultimate goal is to lose weight, boost your athletic performance or improve your state of health, the ecosystem accompanies users along their training journey with custom calibrations wherever they are (at the gym, at home or while travelling). Technogym App Plus gathers and monitors the metrics and insights from the sessions so that users can easily keep track of their journey through intuitive graphs.

From the management side, the company has access to a dashboard that analyses user activity in real time (through aggregate data) and can easily communicate with users directly via the app. The app incorporates gaming elements such as challenges, badges, and rewards within the ecosystem. This ensures motivation and engagement and also creates a community of connected and fit co-workers.

With Technogym’s 360-degree support, partners have access to a network of industry professionals for a specialist and multidisciplinary consultancy and training service, both digital and live. Companies will be guided through the exploration of the medical, fitness, nutritional and meditation offering, enabling them to inform their staff in the most effective and functional way possible.

Technogym is always sensitive to the needs and requirements of its partners, even of a logistic nature. That’s why it will openly share its expertise to ensure every work area is suitable to promote corporate wellness. For example, if the company doesn’t have an area large enough for a gym, Technogym recommends options such as Wellness Ball Active Sitting, Kinesis, the Flexability line and other small footprint solutions that can be placed in coffee corners, meeting rooms and common areas.

Many industrial, financial, technology, fashion, and medical-pharmaceutical giants have already placed their trust in Technogym to ensure the wellness of their employees is in good hands, including Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Ferrari, Apple, Google, Microsoft, Meta, Armani, Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Bosch, Vodafone, Cisco, Unilever, P&G, SAP, Salesforce, GlaxoSmithKline, Abbott, Novo Nordisk, and Medtronic, to name just a few.
